I'm going to do an OBD-1 conversion and get a P28 or something (still researching). I want to get something chipped or have it chipped but I was wondering first what chips you guys might have had experiences with, and will it mess anything up when I turbo the car?
Also, if ecu chips are designed to alter fuel mapping, or fuel efficiency based on load and RPM etc., will it interfere with a VAFC or is a fuel controller still necessary if that's what the chip is supposed to do. |

Yeah, I've heard alot about the S200, although pricey. I'm just concerned with compatibility beween a chipped ecu and a turbo and/or fuel controller.

compare hondata and a stand alone system, FAR from pricey. s200 is like under 300 dollars. Well if someone makes a turbo chip for an ECU which i have never heard of, i mean chips is one program made for one setup you can probably get you a chip made for next to nothing. But I myself would rather run something if i wanted to upgrade later can have it re-tuned.

S200 with boost is over $400. People do make turbo chips, but they hardly do the job. The problem with piggyback ECU's is that the timing and fuel maps aren't specifically made for your setup. Too much timing and not enough fuel, kaboom. Not enough timing and too much fuel, run rich...slower and shitty gas mileage. You're going to spend $ on a turbo setup, do it right the first time so you dont end up replacing your motor. I would rather run a stock ECU combined with an AFC and larger injectors than a piggyback system. |

Ive personally seen chipped ecu burn up rings...too rich is not just run slower with shitty gas mileage...it washes the cylinders and causes the rings to wear prematurely...Vafc's are pretty much useless in my opinion...i mean your spending 200 on something that doesnt do the job thourghly...not to mention doesnt cross maps at the right time...Your vtec might crosover but the fuel and timing maps might not cross at the same time.
Spend the money...hondata with boost is the way to go...you can pick 2...cheap, fast or reliable... |

I never said AFC was the way to go...just a step up from the ECU chip.

You can get uberdata for free, it's almost the same as hondata. You'll still have to get it tuned though. I using the hondata s200 with boost now. IF you have the money....HONDATA

I didn't know that they made a specific "boost" chip. That's why I asked. What I'm gathering from this is Fuel controllers are worthless, chips screw up you engine because they don't do all of the jobs correctly, and I'll agree with resistance98ex's experience because I've had that arguement with him before LOL.
So a hondata s200 with boost... what does that mean? A boost chip in a s200? I'm just looking for a new mod that will be compatible with turbo. I've got so many non power adding mods that I'm doing right now (rear disc swap, clutch, flywheel, 2000 conversion) all these things add reliability but don't add power- so I'm looking into something new. But I want it to be something that I can use for power now and then benefit from it when the turbo goes on. And not cams yet, I'll do that when I replace the internals which won't take too long, I'll get power greedy! Oh yeah, and when I mention that the 2000 conversion is a reliability option, it's because I'll be going back to OEM from fiberglass HAHA |
