swap it dude, look at it this way if u boost your car ur going to end up with headachs down the road and their is only so far u can go with a d seris engine. i say swap it u will have more posibilitys and it will have alot more potential. besides if u swap it u can always boost it down the road if u want

well if you want hp in the 200's i'd say turbo. Swapping you're going to either have to buy a big motor up front type R or h22 to get close to 200 with out spending any more money. Now if done right and tuned right your car with a y8 head can be in the 200's but if you think it wont cost money (jsut as much as a swap) you're in for a rude awakening.
the turbo kit piping, intercooler, and TUNING!!!!! will easy be 3-4g with the turbo you're going to need to get 200. I'm not too up on d series turboing.. lots of people think it's the bastard child of honda.. which.. it pretty much is. I just dont think that putting a D series under all that pressure and boost just to get near 200 is worth the "maybes" in reliability than getting a gsr or type R making some mild upgrades and getting 200 with normal running conditions. That D series is only gonna take so much boost over time. Im sure it can handle 200 but for how long?> |

for how long is always the question however...a good tune on a d series can net you around 170-180+ reliably. im not gunna say it will last forever but it shouldnt be a short time thing. however...hes right...unless you wanna spend money...your not gunna have reliability. its a simple fact...speed costs...how fast do you wanna spend?

it all honesty it would all depend on ur abilities and what u have at ur disposal. being that ur car is a 97 im assuming that its gettin near 100k if not over. so first of all that would totally rule out boost for me cuz the motors got age and its not what it used to be. so in my opinion i say swap in a b series, bolt on some good stuff, get it tuned, and then go from there. ull be well over 200hp with that.

The D series connecting rods are not nearly as strong as the b series.. it's the weakest part of the d series motors.. so if you plan on applying anymore than 6-8psi daily, i would highly suggest getting aftermarket rods.
