I wouldn't wire up gauges before I had everything else, but a clutch is a good idea to get done before hand. I like ACT clutches..you should be fine with a heavy duty pressure plate and street disc.

with a clutch my personal fav. is a action 2md. they arent metallic like act so they dont chew up the flywheel, and mine has held up to 500hp launches on slicks and still looks brand new. The clutch is made of miba which is what they make aircraft brakes out of. it gets to operating temp rather quickly. oh and its a dual diaghram plate which adds more clamping force than the act heavy duty, and the it doesnt engage as harshly as the act, no chatter and no squealing.

now these clutches arent too much for my car are they? because I know a kid that has some clutch, and he is breaking axles. which clutch would be best for a d16y8?

Like I said, the ACT heavy duty....it's not super harsh, but will stand up to the power. It's not gonna break axles. I haven't had chatter and squealing problems with my ACT, nor harsh engagement.

breaking axles isnt a result of the clutch. like i said i run a 2md with stock axles and i havent broken one yet. get motor mounts(jimfab for full mount or inserts if you wanna go the cheap route) to reduce motor torque and learning to drive the car is a big thing. if you just dump the clutch when you launch your going to break stuff. get used to it, its a part of racing. if your not breaking parts, your not going fast.

True story. However, harsher clutches tend to break parts like axles more easily...more stress. |

Having said all this he would only be running 5-8 Psi to start with, when you start breakin shit like that its probably time to step it up to a motor built to handle more power than a D.

yep totally agreed. its doubtful...unless the axles are already done...that he will break them with the power hes going to be putting out at 5-6 psi on a rev hard kit setup.
