I been reading lot of engine performance books and got me thinking....Is it worth it to balance and blue print a turbo engine if all internal parts are aftermarket...From my understanding they are all balanced....so would engine be balanced pretty close...I know with domestic motors it is a must sense they are not even close to balanced but Honda parts are almost always with in a gram of each other. I not going for NIRA racing or anything. At most car be 500hp weekend racer. I am doing everything that not outlandishly priced to make this motor last.
What do you guys think about this subject...Is it even worth bothering with? I not sure what it does cost to have this done to a engine. I would think it wld maybe add at most 10whp if got oddball batch of parts.

extremely worth it...you can gain a lot hp just from making sure all the bearing clearances are set properly...

bearing clerences are part of building any performance engine...I mostly meaning balancing aftermarket parts....Sense they sld be prebalanced is there need for this?

no you dont seem to understand...when you blue print a motor, its more than just setting bearing clearances...they go journal by journal and hone, to make sure they are set at exact specs that you/or your engine builder decide, which we generally set the bearing clearance to .018(18 thousandths for a race motor). theres always a need to make sure everythings balanced....just because you buy a set of rods, doesnt mean they are all the same, when they balance a motor...they take the heaviest rod and putit with the lightest piston and then balance all the other pistons and rods to that combo. These things are necessary and essential to build any reliable, high performance motor. My motor is all balanced and blueprinted.

I understand process...I just curious if I sld bother spending cash on it. I not needing to extract every lil bit of hp I can get. Like I said not no NIRA or anything. But at same time is this going to
longtivity of engine. From what you are saying 98ex is that aftermarket parts are not balanced for shit.... that freakin rules

think of it this way. When you get a new set of tires you dont just mount the tires and not balance them. You have to balance them cause of the new tires. Same thing works for your engine, its balanced from the factory for the OEM pistons/rods/etc/etc. You throw new rods, bearings, sleeves, etc, it throws it off.

wnage:" class="inlineimg" /> So how much does a blueprinting cost? Does it depend on the shop you take the engine to? |

generally...a full engine balance should cost right around 300-400 most likely...then our machine shop charges us 65 an hour to set bearing clearances.

Where at Resistance? I called a few places and they where saying like a grand plus shipping. That was why I was questioning its worth.
