Hey guys having a lil trouble with my turbo D. First thick white smoke is coming out of my exhaust. And my coolant reservior is good before i drive it but after about 30min it is full and my car kinda over heats, but i turn heat full blast and it is good again. I thought it might be headgasket but my car still runs really good other then over heating sometimes. I checked for normal signs of blown head gasket but only visiable sign is just coolant level always low in radiator but yet my reservior is almost full to the very top. Does anyone have any idea? and suggestions would be a huge help. Car really doesnt run bad, but it over heated twice on me now. i got d16ya with greddy turbo kit with intercooler , aem fuel rail.....inj.. apexi exhaust and tuned on hondata. Well once again guys thanks for the possible reasons.

that sounds like a definite blown headgasket...what other "signs" did you check for...the only other visible, or rather feelable sign you could find would be to feel the radiator hoses while the motor is running, if the gaskets blown the hoses will be really hard...also you could check your radiator, on boosted motors, generally it starts ballooning the radiator and youll see the sides bow out a little bit. Other than that your gunna need to throw a leak down on the motor to tell which cylinder(s) are blown.

Can't you usually feel a drop in peformance with a blown HG?

Is there coolant mixed with oil? Do a compression check and give us the results.

Not always...my buddy david ran a 10.89 on a pulled head stud. And its doubtful that the coolant will mix with the oil...unless there is a crack or sunk sleeve. Its gotta have a way past the rings, or else the headgasket would have to be severly blown.a compression test isnt gunna tell you much of anything with a blown head gasket...it might be a little lower...but you wont know why, thats why you do a leakdown and you can tell where the air is leaking from.

I've always seen low comp #'s with blown headgaskets, on the 2 cyls surrounding the blown area.

Yeah your gunna se lower compression numbers...that doesnt always mean head gasket...thats why you run a leakdown...and you know where the compression is going...

I have no idea why your turbo is spiking...but i bet that could be why you blew a hg. like i said in your other post...check all your hoses for the wastegate...and make sure nothings cracked or broken.

What kind of wastegate is it? Something quality, or a no-name POS?

greddy internal wg...
if it is headgasket how hard is it to do yourself. Could me and a buddy do it in a day. I have a buddy who said he would put it in for 200 bucks , and that sounds like a really good deal. Also i dunno if i should post this somewhere else but if u guys know... i got a p28 ecu in my 2000civic ex and it has hondata. Now it was converted obd2 to 1 so how would i go back to making it stock.. cause i might trade it in and am gonna sell turbo stuff. Can i just unplug the wiring harness and plug the first wires back into the old ecu and how do i go about taking the hondata off........ Just postin that out there cause i was thinking about getting new car and wanted to put stuff back to stock. I kept everything so im gonna try. thanks guys
