ive got a 2000 4dr value package and ive already got header and full exhaust done (DC 4-2-1, high flow cat, 2.25" pipe all the way to a 3aracing muffler) was thinking of trying a remote turbo ie removing the back seat and bringing the exhaust up into the car and placing the turbo where the backseat was and running the inlet through the trunk. ive heard of people doing this type of setup with other cars, but ive never heard of a civic being done this way. my car has a d16y7 im gonna change the intake manifold and get a spare head built up and ported. i dont want to swap to vtec, i want to build a helluva non-vtec motor. is this type of setup a good idea? what all parts am i going to need to complete this project?

First off, welcome to the site! Not to be harsh, but truthfully that would be retarded and a waste of time.

Do you know how hot turbos get? Do you know were the gas tank is on a civic. I wanna see you do this, because the gas tank is under the rear seats, it would be 100% waste of time and lag would be huge

nah i've heard of these things being done... on firebirds and camaros. This setup is for those who don't have any room for a turbo in the engine bay.

Smooth, the lag would be the same as a normal turbo setup. Try taking a straw, plugging the end with your finger and blowing into it. Hard to do, right? Now, take an 8 foot straw and do the same thing. The air doesn't take time to get to the plugged end because there's already air in there. There wouldn't be anymore lag than a normal turbo setup because of this principle.

But yeah, i think it's a stupid idea. Just do a normal turbo.

I've seen firebird and camaro guys have the turbos near the rear of the car, but never INSIDE the car.

Remote mounts on Hondas have been done before. The guys at STS that took the idea mainstream have an Integra kit. You don't want to take the turbo inside the car though- just put it in place of your muffler. The tricky part is sizing the turbo wheels and housings correctly. You're dealing with lower velocity and colder air, so a turbo that would work well under your hood isn't going to give you the same response underneath the car. Size the turbo properly (I haven't figured it out myself yet) and you'll be fine.

Like mentioned before, it is a common thing to do with the LS-1 guys. One huge drawback is that NHRA does have a rule where the turbo must be in the engine bay, but I can't tell you the details about the rule.
