Well I will throw out a couple of helpfull sugestions. First of all I drive a gutted 90 hatch, the only thing left is the drivers seat, dash (This is going to be replaced) and the drivers side door panel and seat belt and sound dedening >If anyone knows a good way to rid of this crap let me know< (Need the belt and I cant close the door without making another panel)
A few things that havent been covered yet are your doors, they are heavy, they are metal, and, they can be replaced by fiberglass ones that weagh next to nothing. Second on the list is windows, if you get some lexan windows (There are a few companies that make them) and tint them then mount them OE style you literaly cant tell the difference. Of course there are lighter seats, but a good area to look at is rims. I went from a set of 15" 2000Si rims to a set of 13X7 inch rims (Better traction and much much lighter) the rims are oldschool and I dont think they make them anymore, they are some kind of composit and weagh 6.2 lbs each (I weaghed them) Also if you got $$$ you could look into carbon axles, these things can take a wolloping and weagh 1/10th of a normal axle. Suspension is also a place were massive amounts of weaght can be saved, consider the trailing arms, they are heavy and can be replaced by billet stainless which is much stronger and lighter than the crap forged mild steel ones that make your car a lead brick. Of course there is the radiator which can be replaced by a same size/capacity aluminum deal with a lighter and more efficiant fexalite fan (they also make lexan windows) I would also scrap the D15, since you are realy weaght conservative go with a monster D, use a Sleeved A6 block, a ported Z6 head and a Skunk2/Y8 manifold and you will have a ripin little motor (Lightweaght and loves turbo) if you do all of this you will have yourself a 11-12 second car (If you can hook up) |
