Okay here's the deal, I know that putting on a lightweight crank pulley will throw off the balance of the crank and therefore ruining the bottom end of the motor. My questions are, Does a lightweight flywheel have the same effect? If so then could you use a light flywheel and also a light crank pulley if they are lightened so that they would balance out just like the original ones? I only ask out of sheer curiosity. Also I was told that our rotating assembly is balanced as a whole, including crank pulley and flywheel, is this true?

thanks for any help.

i BELIEVE theyre all balanced seperately. And i dont see why a lightened pulley would ruin anything. As long as its properly balanced. Same goes for the fly wheel. I cant imagine why they would balance it all at once. I mean, what say, for whatever reason you have to get your pulley replaced.. i dont think theyd expect some one to pay to have their entire engine disassembled, just to get a pulley put on.

I know they are all balanced seperatly, what I meant was that the flywheel and harmonic balancer are both balanced instead of just the harmonic balancer. I'm sorry for not clarifing that.
Also the harmonic balancer, if not the proper weight will cause major damage, that is why I posted this. I want to see if there is anyway to get the benefits of the lighter pulley with out destroying the bottom end.

bottom line is dont waste your time bro.... the weight difference on that pully is not worth the risk of maybe throwing the balence out and sure as hell wont give you any hp/flbs difference.. stay stock best way

I was just reading up on lightweight flywheels last night. From what I read there seems to be pro's and con's each way.
Heavier flywheels are beneficial for accelerating from a dead stop, because once it gets spinning, the flywheels' own weight helps in spinning itself leaving less work for the drivetrain to worry about.
Lightweight flywheels help acceleration for higher end power, accelerating out of turns, and aid in stopping because theres less weight on the main component spinning the drivetrain to have to slow down.

This was taken from some website I read last night. Or, at least this is what I understood from it.

this is the way it goes... lightened flywheels let the engine acclerate/decelerate faster. So when your driving... your RPM's between shifts are gonna drop faster. Ideal (IMO) for drag racing.
