Dane - There is a company out there that produces a bunch of chemicals that are designed for spacific problems.
The line is called "Lucus"
As for your low coolent problem, if you can locate some Lucus radiator protectant, you should go for it.
We use that stuff in radiators, engines, transmissions, powersteeting setups and sometimes even "coctail" the bunch.
I couldn't believe how good that shit works to fix anything you can toss at it.
As far as the clamps loosening up on you. I always double hose clamp. That way there is a better garentee that it wont come loose.
As for finding the drip, go to the parts store, buy a few cans of brake cleaner, pull your car into a carwash, let it dry off as much as it can with the engine running, spray the hell out of the engine compartment . . anywhere that it looks wet, the b.c. will dry quick and leave everything dry . . the leak should appear rather quickly from there.
That's a nice trick to know . . .
Again . . Good luck.

no, air in the coolant system cools in the radiator quicker than coolant does, so when enough coolant blows out it runs cold. It will run hot though until it blows most of the coolant out, then once it reaches a certain low level, you can watch your temp guage drop from 'hot' to 'car just started cold' in the blink of an eye.
