I tried to adjust the ignition timing but can't get the ECU in base mode! Yes I tried to jump the little plug above the ECU and still no go! The engine runs very rough when cold but better when warmed up. I'm thinking the ECU is prolly only reading as a fully warmed up engine or something!!! I tried to read the fault codes by jumping the ECU plug but again no go. OH...it's a 93 del sol s...1.5 sohc non VTEC. Does anyone have any clues?

have you tried rotating the distributor?? If I am not mistaken this is the correct way to adjust ignition timing, if it isn't I have been doing it wrong and making it work for several years. Try loosening the 3-12mm bolts holding the distributor on and, when the engine is warm and idling rotating the dist. very small increments towards the front of the car. You will hear the engine speed up but dont got too far, the idle should never get above about 1k Rpm max. if this doesnt fix the problem then let me know.

The service book says to get the ECU in base mode (jumping the plug behind the carpet) then using a digital tach clipped on to #1 plug wire to adj. properly. I tried reseting the ECU today. Hopefully it'll run a bit better.

Still running rough when cold...almost sounds like it's running on 3 cyl. Just had the valves adj. 2 weeks ago and still sounds like they're out of adj. Will eventually have to take it in. Maybe a bad sensor or something!!!!

She's all good now baby!! If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Turns out the valves were way off! I readjusted them myself and gave the dizzy cap a slight counterclockwise spin to bring up the RPM's to approx. 850 900. She winds like a top and smooth as a baby girls bottom!
