The smell could be some dead animal...
needles not working is some sort of wire problem, check connections to back of cluster, and also check connections on engine..

maybe there was an animal in there, it chewed the wires, so they dont work anymore. but while chewing on the wires on it got shocked and died. and thats what smells. hey it could happen.

if it's a gauge cluster problem a not a wiring problem i've got an extra dx cluster w/ 94k on the odometer.

would u want $$ for the cluster?? im not sure if this one is any good or not but mine isnt an auto matic.. so if im gona have to spend $$ on one it will be an si with tach.. but let me know..

also a dead mouse or sumthin is possible.. i would honestly say it is sumthin that died in it.. but what i dnt get is it doesnt smell when in general but only when the heat is turned on.. a guy i wrk with said its prolly the heater heatin it up and makin it stink.. but the heat doesnt wrk realy so its not heatin it up..

noone has answered y my heater wont get hot.. any ideas..
