I FINALLY got my rex to start! After some wiring/grounding issues, it turns over great now every time. *whew*
Now that THAT prob. is over, I WAS going to check for vac. leaks. Instead, I now have to figure out weather to sell the whole car? or just part it out? This is really starting to fukin' get me down. I can't win. You all have been a great help to me so far getting this thing to run as good as it is now. Well . . Now, I've got a serious prob. and I need some SERIOUS help! If I can't resolve this one asap . . I've got no choice but to sell it and try my best to get some lost money out of it all. If you are up for a challenge . . Here's the deal. ------------------------------------------------------- I started the car. Other than a "shivering" idle, it was seriously running good. The idle was below a grand, the engine sounded quiet, the throttle response was great, the exhaust tone was the freakin' best I've ever had/heard! I wanted to let it sit and idle until some of the "stale" gas could burn up. That's when I noticed it! My engine was literally spilling oil EVERYWHERE!!! WTF?!?!? I quickly shut it off and ran up front to try and locate the oil leak source. It was a chore but I've managed to isolate were I believe it's coming from. I've got no F.ing clue what to do about this. 1) The oil is slowly leaking out of the front most drivers side corner of were the head meets the block . . . and just there. (for the top) The bottom is a whole lot worse!!! 2) The oil is flowing out of the lower part of the block on the middle of the drivers side of it were the pulleys are. I'm talking at least a 1/3 of a cup full of oil per minute!!! This isn't looking good!!! I cleaned the living ish out of it all, dried it all off and later turned the car on again. I still couldn't locate were the major leak was coming from. Again . . I had a mess. I cleaned/dried everything off once again. This time I busted out my digi and took a few pics and a vid for you to check out to see if you can better direct me to were to look, what to check, and what to do to fix it. (if it's even fixable) So far my asshole friends are just ragging on me telling me that the head is warped, the block is cracked, etc . . . I really don't want stupid guesses, I need realistic answers . . . That is why I'm coming to cl and asking you! Here are the pics/vid: 1) This is a shot of the block through the front. (cleaned up) ![]() 2) This is a shot of the block from underneath the ds fenderwell. ![]() The vid quality is very sh!tty because I was way too burned to notice at the time. Sorry/Bare with em' ![]() ---> This is the vid clip of a small length of run time. :: It loads very slowly - Please be patient :: This is the best I can do to give you all a visual as to what I'm dealing with here. I have to fix this asap! It's deeper than you all think and I cant into it just yet. As of now, I'm hell-bent on fixing and driving this thing. I don't want to have to give it up. I just dropped just shy of a grand in more new parts for it a few days ago. Please help! Thanks again! Sam - |

well, the possibilities of what your friends said are actually pretty good. If the head warped, it may have also cracked. I've seen that once before on my POS cavalier. My suggestion is to take the head off and have it checked out. Or maybe get that tuner guy you were talking about just take a quick look at it and see what he thinks.
Good luck Sam, we seem to have the same kind of luck when it comes to f'ed up shit like this! Jake |

1.. Is it leaking out of the valve cover?? or between the actual head and block. You said when you got it that none of that was even really bolted down right?
2.. This sounds like either the front main seal or the cam seals are leaking. Pretty common that i have heard of alot of people forgetting to install the cam seals when building a motor.. - so i would say front main or cam seals are leaking or just not there for that much oil to be laking at once.. Not expensive.. just a bitch to have to do it on a motor you just got.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, the vid took a while to load . . even for my cable. Jake - I hear ya bro. If we didn't have shitty luck, we'd have none at all! I thought that there may be a slight bit leaking out from around the vc and then dripping down the head onto the block . . I'm not sure yet. I was also told that it was the main barring. <-- that would bite! I know this: It's coming from the side just behind were the crank pulley? is located <--- just behind it were I can't see! I just want to get this thing done! wtf? Oh well . . I guess I'll just have to start parting some of it out to get some $ to fix the engine. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again! Sam - |

I might as well toss this up . . .
If the main barring / seal is f'd up and needs to be fixed and / or If the cam seal(s) need to be fixed . . . What exactly would it entail me doing? I've never had to do this before. Procedure? Steps? Suggestions? Thanks. |

Below is information ASAIK.. I havn't done alot of work on many hondas.
well to replace the front main.. you would have to take belts off remove accessories.. Remove harmonic balancer and remove/replace the seal... to replace the cam seals.. again.. remove belts/accesories remove the cam pullies and replace seals.. (may have to remove valve covers) never done it on a honda. the seals aren't really expensive.. Just have top remove alot of crap to get to them.

Nice. Thanks again!
I was just worried that I'd have to yank the entire engine out and crack the head/block to get down to the spot in question. The less the better since I don't have the tools for this sort of job with me anymore. Thanks! ![]() |

Well . . I may have some good news now. I had a guy come over to the garage to check out the oil leak and he shed some new light on the situation for me. Granted that he is a toyota guy, he seemed to have his dohc setups covered.
He seems to think that it's my oil pump that is shitting out on me. I'm not sure why it'd cause such a problem but he almost guaranteed that the pump was the source. I checked up on the pump that came with the car and it is in fact a type r pump from a ctr motor. Is there a difference? I'm lost there so I'll probably just get the new one for a dohc del sol or something. Hopefully that'll do the trick. On the topic - what would cause the pump to spit out so much oil? The pump? The seal? Thanks. Sam - |
