thats it i dont know what to do. i heard a clanking sound in the engine so i took out the oil pan and found lots of metal flakes, im thinking the pistons f'd up the cylinders. what is recommended to fix that? i think the oil pump messed up. rods look to befine but i think i need new pistons heads along with a new oil pump.

sounds more like a rod or main bearing spun.. usually happens under extreme driving when you run low on oil.... A rebuild will definatly be in the future. If you can get the money to do it new pistons/rods wouldn't hurt.

Or perhaps it would just be easier to swap the engine.

haha i just got the engine about 5 months ago. but ya, one of the rod bearing that connected to the crankshaft broke so it was loose.and i was very low on oil. will the engine need to be repaired and if so how. i think a lot of the flakes must of got in the head so i want to get that cleaned, but not upgraded. i was thinking of just upgrading the block for now to type r stuff. how can i tell if the cylinders need to be repaired?

well.. it depends how bad they are worn. But you need to find out what your bore is now and you'll probably need to have it bored to fit the next size larger pistons.

The head should be cleaned and rebuilt with new valve guides

find somewhere experianced to do the work

I thought i read some place it not good to bore the block but to resleeve it, but i dont think i have wore them out terrible.
I was thinking about going with spoon sports balanced jdm type-r pistons ( link http://www.inlinefour.com/spoonsporbal.html ) they come in standard bore and .25mm oversized, and i beleive the bore size of mine is stock but i dont know what size that is? And would any head work need to be changed if i get these pistons?

also these are the other parts im planning to get for the block
integra type-r oil pump - http://www.inlinefour.com/intypoilpum.html
Honda hamp oil filter - http://www.inlinefour.com/honhamoilfil.html
oil - Royal Purple

And the top and bottom gasket kits

if you've got a b16 already and your block is F*cked up. the hell with spending mad loot on a rebuild and just by a b20 block. im not sure of cost, but i cant see it being too much more money to do that than to rebuild. correct me if im wrong.

i know the b20b block could go for about 750. i just thinking here now if i get it how much custom work would it need and how much. and will it be reliable for some daily driving, like 5 to 10 weekdays and lots on the weekends.

if you threw a bearing you should have the bearing seats checked. those metal flake could be from the cylinder wall, but id bet that they are either the bearing seats or the bearings them selves. i would take the block to a shop and have them check the concetricity (roundness of the bearing seats) if there isnt obivious wear. my buddy will tell you all bout out of round bearing seats...engine fired up great, diedin a couple hours.
