Car Doesn' Start Sometimes! Pleas Help

[b]Sometimes when I go driving around in my 89 honda civic 4 dr. I will stop to eat somewhere and will come back out to start my car and it wont start. The engine light is then on. Then a few minutes later I will wait and try to start my car and the engine light will come on quickly and turn off. Then my car will start right away with no problem at all. Its like if I drive for short periods of time and turn my car off and come right back out again my car never starts. So I'm wondering If anybody knows what this problem could be. I was thinking maybe its a sensor, but why would that make your car not start? And my car then starts right away after I wait for awhile anyways. It makes no sense to me. So If anybody knows what this problem could be give me a hollar. thnx! PLease Help Me If you can. My car does turn over though.

Be a little more specific. Does it crank and not start? Or does it not crank? Any noises when not starting? It may be something as easy as your battery, or could be something more complex.
