To Seize Or Not To Seize

When my engine was newly built, the guys used what they tell me is a "type-r" oil pump to the the pump rate over the stock b-series o.e. one.
Either way, you all know by now that something is up with it. It's leaking like a civ!
After much discussion, we all pretty much came to the conclusion that it had maybe seized up causing oil to build up and blow by the seal (s) on/near it.

Here's my new find:

We took the valve cover off, threw the plugs back in, cranked over the car and let the engine sit there for a sec and just do it's thing.

Here's what gets me! The oil IS getting circulated throughout the block/head! We saw that the oil was indeed coming up through the head and slightly splashing around.

Now, if there is oil traveling up that far, doesn't that say that the pump IS working properly? I just don't want to buy another one if there's nothing wrong with it to begin with.

Let me know what you all think and I'll go from here.

I know for a fact that it all needs to be taken apart, have the surfaces cleaned and re-sealed! As far as the new seal . . what should I do there? As of now, it's siliconed<--(sp) and that's NOT doing the job!

What would everybody recommend I do to seal it all back up tight when I throw it all back together?

If you are getting oil to the head then the pump works fine. Either that or you lack gravitational force in your garage.

Silicone as a seal works just fine, all Saturn cars are made this way. BUT, you have to use an RV or RTV silicone because of the difference in strength/texture like this>


I would say take it apart and clean it out, then reseal it with the correct material and see what happens from there. There is alot of pressure in the oil system, so maybe it's as easy as a bad seal issue? (I hope)
