damn this is the day i never thought would come, long story short i went to the track out here in fontana Cali and my ass got pulled over outside the track just before the entrance and the cop came out and started taking pictures of my engine, exhaust blah blah blah ohh i drive a 00 civic si with a crv tec swap so any ways he said i have to go to a chp state referee inspection because he says all the things i have are not carb legal so i have to put my car back to stock and the chp will smog the car for me and do a noise decibel test so im like whatever then after a few days go by i start to hear people say that during the inspection they also check the engine code and it has to match the car. and if a swap was done the engine has to be the year of the car or newer bs cali laws i know b20s are out of crvs so how do i prove to the chp the b20 is out of a 2000 crv

A CRVTEC won't pass visual inspection. VTEC headswaps onto a nonvtec block are not legal in CA, and won't pass.

Will a B16 head on a GSR block? That's a little more in the grey area...

can you guys somehow register your car at a friends address in a neighboring state to avoid all of the CARB regulations?

i.e. i registered my civic under my parents address in a county that did not require emissions testing even though i lived in dallas.

The problem is... all of California is like that, and when you move to another state as a permanent resident- you have to register your car in that state within 30 days (or a few months, varies by state) or your registration is technically illegal. There's no way around it in California.

I honestly couldn't tell you if that would pass or not. I would think you might be able to get away with it, but at the REF they even check what ECU you are running...they might catch it. I know for a fact that VTEC headswaps onto a nonvtec will not pass. The oil line is a dead giveaway.

i don't see what the problem is as long as you use the out of state address to funnel all of your state/federal mail through.
