i had one of the sides replaced last summer. now my car rattles like a bitch lately. im almost positive its thet other side. problem is, i dont know which one is the other side off hand. i got under the car today to change the oil, and i thought i would check things out. the both look ok visually. but under the drivers side, there are globs and globs of grease and dirt all over the place. i would imagine thats the one that needs to be replaced. just wondering if there is any sure way of testing it without tearing it apart. so i buy the correct parts. there is no "clicking" noise when turning. but the same front end/steering wheel shake as before when i had the other side replaced. any info would be great. thanks.

well its always a good idea to replace both CV axles when replacing them...What I did at the nissan dealer to check for bad axles was get the car in the air (both front tires) secure them with jackstands put blocks underneath the back wheels, make sure everything is really secure, and have someone drive the car up to say maybe 70 mph and find where your rattle is...

yeah, im sure that would be a pretty sure fire way, but im not ready to try that in my garage. i suppose i will go pick up a drivers side shaft as soon as i can. whats the worst that can happen?? its the wrong one, and i exchange it for the correct one. i just want to get everything running before boosting. i have a list of just over $1k in parts im going to order later tonite.
-XTSS clutch. -Xact streetlite flywheel. -Tokico struts and spring kit. -and a new set of shifter bushings. im sure the car will feel band new once all installed.

hell yeah, sounds like a plan. for $10, maybe i will miss 3rd gear, even LESS often than i do now.. too much play in the shifter.. its a bitch you know?? drives me nuts. like when someone bumps my rearview mirror. i hate that damn thing. i cant EVER get it where i want it.. and once i do.. somebody bumps into it.. lol.

Just some FYI for you 97EX/SIR the typical reason for inner cv joint failure is a bad motor mount, typically on Hondas the ones on the bottom of the frame in the front of the engine bay are the most common to fail. The reason they cause cv joints to fail is because the motor tweaks under load throwing off the driveline alignment, thus causing the failure. I only tell you this so that you dont keep replacing the shafts when the cause can be remedied. I used the polyurethane motor mount inserts on both of my cars.

well not really, I had polyurethane inserts for my torque mounts and had a set of axles go bad. But yeah there usually is a reason for axle failure, and its for driveline alignment, the straighter the better. Polyurethane inserts for your torque mounts are next to nothing...
