Well I have a 1997 Honda Civic CX(Stock except intake and exhaust) and I just happened to receive a D16A6 Motor and tranny.

As of right now I see the bottom ends are Identical, yet everything else seams a little different.

My first question is, Will the D16A6 Final drive(4.250) work in my civic(3.722)?

Is it possible to bolt the top end(or maybe just the Camshaft) onto my existing D16Y7? And will I see power gains?

(The only reason I am asking about the head is because there is more volume in the SI head)

if thats the old SI head then you'll probably need to re wire or run the SI wiring harness

the tranny will work

not much power gains

diag. sell it and put it towards a B series or a turbo

I pulled the motor apart and the valves were burnt and started leaking oil, no good at all.

How similar is the D16Y7 transmission compared to the D16A6? Can I just install the Differential from the D16A6 into the D16Y7 and also change the first 4 gears from the A6? Is this possible or is it completely different?

if you cchange the final drive you also have to change the main shaft...you cant just change the differential. unless you know about trannies, i dont think it would be a goo dthing for rookie to take on without someone guiding them. However if youve pulled a honda tranny apart before it should be cake...we have hybrid a tranny before, it makes the car pretty decent.

Considering I have a Donor Transmission, is there still anything else I have to buy to make it all go smoothly?

Like for instance, will I have to get an SI speed sensor or should I change the speedometer gear on the diff?

Can I use all the original(or the SI) Forks and gear selectors?
