OK as some of you know I got a Del Sol that has a D16Y7 installed in it. I'm currently working out a deal where I'm getting a D16Z6 Vtec head for relatively cheap. I assume that I need a new ECU for the VTEC to function correctly. Which ECU should I be looking for? I found a P28 M/T Del Sol ECU on ebay for a decent price but it says its out of a 1995, does that make any difference with anything? How do I check to see if my current ECU would do the trick. Thanks for any help guys.

I believe you should match the ECU with the head. If your block is from a 97 than you should match the head with the same year trims for the block. However you can put the OBD1 head on a OBD2 block... I'm sure someone here will give a better answer.

Awesome thanks for th info. However I have another question now. I have a newer D16Y7 Block... should I be trying to get a D16Y8 head or would the D16Z6 head be exactly the same thing?

The Z6 head will work just as well as the Y8, but you'll have slightly lower compression. Just make sure to use all OBD2 sensors and your OBD2 ECU (P2P) and you should be fine.
