i currently have a 96 civic with a d16y8, and i have the opportunity to buy a "race" ported and polished z series head taht would bolt up to my block.
it comes with brand new crower retainers and valve springs.... the porting and poishing is really nice, i have seen the head..... i can pick it up for about 800 bucks. what i was wondering is if its wise to bolt a z to my d. i dont know how old the head is. but it seems to be a decent deal. i would need to purchace a new cam and few other things.... what do yall think and what else would i need? i think it would be a nice addition to the mods i have......

Hell If you end up doin that i'll take the Y8 head off you.
but to answer the question...i'm not too sure that a Z head would fit on a D block with ease.

You're talking about an SOHC VTEC head right, from a d16z? If so, you can use it. $800 is kinda steep for a built SOHC head though.

If the head came with a nice cam (and prepped for it) like the Crower Stage 3, it might be a good deal at $800. If it's used and doesn't come with a cam, I'd look deeper into the deal and see what's going on.

i appreciate the advice..... and yes yes i hear it all the time
about saying screw my single and just swap it, but i really dont want to swap my engine , what excites me is haveing a pretty well built single shooter. i know i can never have teh power of a b series..... but my lil sohc vtec can hang with an IS, hangs w/ some built SI's, Ls's. i just enjoy my car. i know you can see a sohc w/ a fart can and a cai...... but my list is as follows.....dc header, exhaust, venom cam gear, venom injectors aem short ram, aem fuel rail, b&m fuel pressure regulator skunk 2 intake mainifold, act clutch, act flywheel. i figured a ported and polished head w/ new cam valve springs and retainers would be another piece to add to the pie... but 800 seems steep, thats why i started this post....

you dont want to swap it cause you have all that stuff done to it.. just remember you can sell it to someone that knows what that stuff is worth.
also think of it this way.. you can have a pretty sexy chick and hit it consistantly .. but isn't two chicks of equal hotness always better? |
