I have a y8 intake that I am putting on my y7. I am looking at the back of this intake and it has two holes right beside where the throttle body hooks up. Is that where this so called IACV valve bolts up? Can I buy this at the local parts store? Is it needed? 2nd Quest. Can I use a y8 throtlle body w/out a different harness? My y7 throtlle body has 1 more cannon plug on it than the y8 throtlle body. My car is a 97 LX, trying to finish putting on this y8 head and intake.

1.Yes, that's where your IACV valve bolts up, and you can buy one at a parts store for around $100 or so for your motor, or on ebay for $10. You do need it. Your IACV (idle air control valve) is what allows your car to idle. When you are idling, your throttle plate is closed. The IACV allows a small enough amount of air (enough to equal about 700rpm) to pass through it routing it around the throttle body and directly into the intake plenum.
2. The y7 throttle body is a horizontal mount, whereas your new y8 is the more traditional style for most imports. The throttle body itself doesn't use anything electrical, it is just a valve. But connected to it, you have the MAP sensor, along with the TPS sensor.

The MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor measures the pressure from the intake vacuum and converts it to voltage for your computer to read.

The TPS (throttle position sensor) tells your computer how far the throttle plate is open so the ECU can match the correct amount of fuel to the air coming in.

Both sensors are critical to the motors' operation. On the y8, the TPS is on the back of the throttle body, and the MAP is on the top (I think) right where it connects to the intake pipe (on the left). The y7 may have configured their placement differently, but there shouldn't be any additional harnessess for the throttle body.

dont mean to be a nag but, take this as correctional critisim. an IAC motor helps your car idle when its cold. What the IAC motor does is senses the tempature of the coolant and lets the motor how much revs it should get while the motor is cold and warming up, it has a special wax element inside the motor. The thing you are talking about is the Fast Idle Thermo Valve. other known as FTIV, the function is correct but just wrong thing.
