Both civics (5th and 6th gen) are approaching the 90k-110k mile window for the glorious recommended timing belt change.
I glossed over the section in my Helms - looks pretty involved. Before I roll up my sleaves, I was wondering if anyone on here has done this before and #1 - how difficult is it, (compared to, say, replacing an alternator), #2 - will I really need any special tools for the task beyond your basic socket/box end wrench set, #3 - other than the belt itself, what did you find important to change out while you were in there. Thanks!

1. not that difficult ( i just did it
) , but alot of steps to do 1 litttle thing.Basically the tough part is taking off the crank pulley, i did it with a long ass steal tube, while the car was in 1st and someone stomping on the brakes. Take your time id' say, make sure you find TDC on #1 piston and line up the crank with it when done. 2. No special tools needed besides LONG breaker bar/pole for crank pulley. 3. I was told to replace my waterpump while there, since it's RIGHT in your face when you get to the timing belt. Might as well since ya got it apart. Check the timing belt tensioner for play or bad wear, replace if needed. You could also change your AC and Alternator belt, since you took them off to get there. I think that's about it. Good Luck ! JD EDIT: This site is advertising on here a kit ! http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/pro_str...ming_belt_kits/ |

I bought my timing belt kit from prostreetonline. Be aware that the water pump you get in the kit is aftermarket and not OEM. Timing belt is a little harder on a DOHC motor
