Hey all..
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the first generation Apexi AFC's (5 Knobs)? and how do these compare with the 2nd generation. IF they do the same job i might as well buy it and save half my money to get it tuned. How hard is it to tune it yourself? Thanks guys |

You can't really tune it yourself without at least having a wideband O2 sensor to see where your air/fuel ratios are going. I don't know how the 5 knob version compares to the pushbutton AFC, but considering that they VAFC2 and SAFC2 are quite a bit improved over the previous versions, I would assume that there's a good bit of jump between the original and gen 2. At least get the silver/blue ones with the buttons- they're not that expensive.

the 5 knob works just as well as the new ones, just doesnt have all the fancy smhancy display and shit. where did you find it? I have been looking for one. My buddy has one in his 96 hatch with a b20/Vtec/Turbo setup and it works for him

Im from Australia and just looking on your American Ebay. Theres heaps going for $115. The price difference between the new ones and old ones is about 3 times the price really. So if they do the same thing then i'll be happy. I think the 2nd generation is very nice but attracts so much unwanted attention. I dont have a performance car but would like to balance out my car to get the most out of what i have.

I think i read somewhere saying that as you go up through the rev ranges the corresponding knob lights up red? is this true? or does it always remain green.

5 knobs is the original and not terribly bad.. Still its only 5 points of adjustment. the 1st gen(blue face) AFC had 8 points and you could adjust anywhere in the rpm band. They allow you to fill in any holes or take out fuel in more specific spots without messing up the rest of an area. ..
The gen 2 has 12 points of adjustment that you can put anywhere in the rpm scale.. big plus.. for starting off, theres nothing wrong with the 5 knob version in my book.. Heck i recomend it.. keeps things simple

Well while on the topic of old school electronics.. What about an Apexi ITC? same thing but for ignition. I can get both the ITC and AFC for the same price as a SAFC2. Which would you get?
Engine is D16y7 Auto.. Shit i know.. just something for personal enjoyment not drag racing. |
