OK well like the great oil debate,i pose this question to anyone?Which gas should be used when running a b18c1 or c5? My Teg was low on gas so i put 3 or so gallons of 87 in it just to get it off of "E". I also noticed on the cluster that it says "Premium Unleaded Only". Me, never owning a vehicle that deserved higher octane fuel, completely forgot this small technicality.
Will the 3 or so gallons hurt my motor, and should i run it from now on with high octane(93)? |

dude.. dont do that to the R, premium only is just want it means. Dont run it hard on that 87 gas wait till you fill back up with good gas. i use 99 here in maryland there is a place where i can get 103 as well.
cory this is not ment to be spiteful, but this isn't a ZC put the correct gas in her. |

Ok then,my next question is.....
Should i let the 87 run out or can i add 93 to it at any time? 93 is the highest i think we can get here in NYS. |

Gas that I use for my hatch is Shell V-Power 93 Octane. Its a little pricey BUT it has nice additives in it that keep your fuel injectors clean and surprisingly your intake track clean, I put a new intake mani gasket about 2k ago, and noticed how clean and shiny my intake tract was compared to using regular 93 octane. plus i notice i get better mileage and car runs better with the V power.

on a b16 87 wont be a big deal...compression isnt high enough...
On your type r however, run out the shitty 87 octane and fill it up with good gas, the the fact the your emergency res. still had good gas in it, along with the fuel lines and filter, you should be ok...On my low compression motor, i detonated with 89 in mine, but then again i was turning 9500rpms and had 32 deg. total advance. If you fill the tank up now with the 3 gallons or so you should be Ok. I dont think your going to hurt the motor...what are you on for engine management, have you staticly advance the timing? The best fuel we get here in CA is 91 at the pump and thats what david and i run on all day long. Ive had my head off since the motor was put together and havent noticed any signs of detonation in my car. Still running the car at 32 deg. total timing and a 9800rpm rev limit. |

yea i would def recommend shell v power. its a 93 octane fuel with additives that clean the motors parts just as nstygrnhtch said. its great gas and i mean its really not that bad of a price. its def worth the extra dollar at the pump. my teg loves it and i get great gas mileage!!!!
