my g- friend just bought herself a 96 ls teg with a 5 speed, got 65k on the motor all stock. in really good condition. can the stock bolock and head handle a mild turbo setup. i was thinking a t3/t4 intercooled running about 9-12 lbs max. along with a 3" exhaust. do you think it would handle it. i think this is pretty mild. and i was told that the ls's have lower compression than the gsr. i am just looking for easiest power adder without tearing into the block.

Lots of people have run low boost on an LS with no problems. Personally I don't think it would handle anything over 9psi, but if you have it tuned for it properly low boost is OK.

Like anything I would recomend a compression check before boosting.

::shakes head::

yeah i have seen stock boost setups on LS's up to 10 psi BUT the 10psi was tuned and professionally installed. But I would run 6-7 for a daily with some tuning

Yup- you can run quite a bit of boost on the stock LS block with good tuning. Over 300whp is doable without going inside the engine.

Tuning is the key. The right fuel management combination and a good dyno tuner will keep the motor running strong. I've seen stock LS motors running 15psi and higher, with the right tune of course.

i already have a piggy back fuel controller and an wideband a/f ratio guage that will be finding its way onto it. i figured i would go witha simple setup of some bigger injectors...possibly 550cc's, a bigger fuel pump with an inline fuel pressure regulator. run a manual boost controller. does the ls have a return line for fuel?

Be careful- most of the piggyback computers have issues controlling injectors more than 50% larger than stock. I'd go with Hondata if you can to tune- Uberdata if you're willing to do a lot of the circuit work yourself and you want to be cheap. The piggybacks only use different parts of your stock fuel map- they don't rewrite the fuel and timing maps like Hondata does.

The LS does have a return line for fuel- all Hondas did up until the 2001+ Civics and RSXs.

I would not run a piggyback fuel controller like the SAFC. Go with a tunable engine management like Hondata/Uberdata. I had a friend running the AFC hack with some 450's and he never was able to get it to run correctly...it was rich, and the injectors were trimmed back as far as they could get.

your wideband air/fiel gauge will do you no good with out a wideband O2 sensor. And yeah i agree no piggy back if you wanna keep it reliable. i know some people that have pushed stock block LS's pretty far on hondata and tuned by Bubba. Not my personal preference but if your only looking for a mild power boost then what your talking about should be fine...heh...good enough to prolly run with your Neon just kidding man...no hard feelings.
