i had this problem with my 91 civic dx, i was figuring it had to be something like a fuel delivery problem because i checked my spark and it was fine. like vapor lock or something like that. does it happen almost all the time u get gas? cuz when mine did it it was most common when i stopped for gas.

yes i had the same problem... it is your engine coolant temperature sensor. A 20 dollar part if that.
