first off, if you haven't seen my topic in forced induction you can take a look: http://www.civicland.com/forums/inde...showtopic=5650
up until now i was convinced that i wanted to go turbo, but now that i think more and more about it in my particular situation i don't know if i'll be able to save up the $3 to $4 grand i'd need to properly turbo the car. then i started thinking about going for all motor, and maybe adding nitrous after i do the basic I/H/E. then see where i go from there...maybe build the motor up some. the thing is is i'll be moving into an apartment in august, and from then on i'll have a rent payment. i'll be making enough money working to pay for all my bills, but i probably won't have too much money left to put into the car after gas, utilities, etc. take their toll. so i'm thinking it'd be a hell of a lot easier to save up a couple hundred here and there to gradually add stuff than to save up $4 grand at once for turbo. so i guess basically i just want your opinions on what you make of the situation.

if i understand you right you live w/ your parents now but are moving out in august. so my advice would be to work your ass off until august!
buy that turbo kit w/ cash!i bought my civic ($4500) w/ cash in the summer of 01 using cash i made from just three months of working in a photolab and building websites. of course, i did technically take out loan for half of the civic and used my cash in the bank as collateral (for building credit). |

that'd be pretty sweet if i could do that, but i doubt it. starting right now i have a car payment and insurance which adds up to about $350-$400. but yeah, i'm definitely gonna see how much i can save from now until then.

![]() it's all about how bad you want it. i know it's cliche but if you want to play hard you literally have to work hard. just curious, are you moving out because you are moving to a different city for college or something? |

you also don't need to spend 4 grand on a turbo kit. If you want a full kit just buy a greddy one and then a hondata for another 400. You can get the kit and hondata for like 2 grand minus the intercooler.

I don't sugest buying a used turbo. You can buy used everything else but the turbo itself you should buy new |

so let's do some figuring here...i make $250 a week (yeah i know it sucks for 40 hours but hey i just started). i'll be paid 23 times from now to when i move in so that's about $5,750. i'll be paying $400 a month for car payment and insurance and between $40 and $50 for my cell phone bill, so that's about $450 a month in bills for now. that leaves about $500 to $550 a month to play with. then there's gas, food which shouldn't be too much b/c i usually eat at home, and other necessities (some weed, beer, cigarettes, etc.). if my calculations are correct, and they're probably not, i'll have approximately $3,200 to spend on things besides bills, and the above mentioned necessities aren't factored into the bills. all this plus i was really hoping to get a good amount of money in the bank before i move into this place so i won't be living completely paycheck to paycheck and barely making it. so as you can see, even if i did manage to save up enough for turbo i don't know if i could even justify spending that much money on something and moving into this place with no money in the bank at all. i guess getting a cheaper kit could be an option, but i'll have to look at that stuff more.
