my car's going to need a new clutch in the next few months or so, so i'm wondering how hard the installation would be. i'm planning on getting an aftermarket stage-1 racing clutch, and i'd like to know if i'd be able to install it myself or if it's beyond my grasp. so how difficult is the actual work? are any special tools needed? will i be able to figure out how to do it just going by a helm's manual? i know a decent amount about working on cars, but i don't have all that much hands-on experience. thanks for any advice.

It's not really difficult, just time consuming. Removing suspension components, axles, lining up the transmission, etc....just tedious work. You could do it with a helm's manual and the right tools.

not a lot of tools needed ...17mm, 14, 12, and 10. you need a 12pt 10 to take off the pressure plate bolts. a good jack some jack stands...it really shouldnt be very hard for anyone with some knowledge about working on cars.

yeah make sure you use a clutch key to line everything up, Also make sure you tighten the PP down in criss cross a few turns at a time so you don't warp the plate.

thanks, that guide looks extremely helpful. the write-up says it's for the B18C, but will it be very different if at all for the B18B1?

Nope it's the same thing. IT's really easy just take you type make sure everything is straight and torqued to spec. We just did mine like 2 weeks ago.
