The past two days off and on.. I'll get in my car, go to start it (a 5th gen coupe) and I get all my electrical.. but not even a crank. (yesterday happened all day so I was using my remote start lol, but I took the key and put it in and out real quick a few times and it cranked..

Same scenario today except when i did it, it didnt crank?!? Do i need to have my ignition replaced, is there a bad connection? starter? wtf is going on?

BTW- I do have an alarm, but i dont think its involved. I hit my electrical kill switch, which would reset my alarm and that didnt work as well..

As stupid as it seems, check your battery; charge, fluid level, electrolyte concentration. If it is in fact the battery, then...
If the battery is dirty, you could be getting some surface discharge, so clean it.
Also, check for parasitic drain (any electrical component that uses the battery's charge when the car is not running) with a Digital Multimeter (voltometer): I have heard that those remote start kits can cause such a problem.
If its not the battery, then its probably the starter, in which case you should remove it, disassemble, and perform some continutity tests on the armiture to figure out whether or not it needs to be replaced.
Thats all I got for ya; hope it helps...

so you're saying the car will start only when you are using the remote start? if thats the case, something electrical near the ignition is failing.

if the battery was failing, the car wouldn't start with the remote start either.

i could either be right on target, or a mile away, but thats what i think

I just replaced the battery 6 months ago.. my car has no audio SYSTEMS.. And yeah remote start could be contributing. That I dont doubt.

But I do think there is some kind of failure in the ignition only because it hasnt completely given out. The problem has come and gone, and only seems to be getting worse.

Im having a mechanic work on my car tomorrow for my timing belt and water pump. I could ask him to check it out. But my take so far is that i can rule out the following..

battery
starter
Alarm (Possibly)?
Dirty connections

Only thing I can think of is my ignition..What would this fucker run me If it is worse case scenario?

Also If theres any loose wiring in the ignition system how could would this usually happen.

My car had shitty coilovers and rattled and banged through potholes and bumps.. Could this contribute to this kind of issue?

Thought of something else...
Next time it wont start, pop your hood and give a the starter a light tap with a hammer. Sometimes the "springloading" on the little brushes inside the starter housing lose their tension and they get sort of hung up and dont make contact with the armiture. A little tap with a hammer will put them back into position enough to start the car most of the time. Its a temporary fix at best, but if it works, you at least know what the problem is.

Oh yeah... The shitty coilovers could DEFINATELY have something to do with loose wiring.

I got a quote for $240 for the ignition cylinder, eh im going to the alarm shop tomorrow to have them check my wiring on the remote start. For some reason I think it might have something to do with it.

I dont wanna fork up $240 when I gotta pay out $300 for my timing and waterpump
