This isn't about my Honda, but it's about my girl's Eclipse. I bought her a Cobra radar detector last week to find out her cigarette lighter doesn't work. The previous owner of the car smoked, so I know the lighter used to work.

The lighter plug itself seems to have some corrosion on it. And there is a light ring around the plug that lights up emphasizing the cigarette lighter.

could the lighter just be extremely dirty or something else? If the fuse was blown, I don't think the light around the lighter would illuminate. Then again, maybe the light is connected to something else. I don't know. I'm sure it's a very simple fix, I just want to get some ideas thrown around.

Thanks

Take the fuse oiut and scrub some steel wool in there to clean it out. While you have the fuse out check it. IT's probally just really oxidized (sp)

yeah first thing in electrical diagnosis in any car is to check the fuse first. if not the fuse then check the lighter.

Fuse checked out fine. I took off the side panel on the center console so I could reach the lighter. She had HHGregg (a store like Best Buy) install her HU months ago and I saw what a wonderful job of electrical taping they did. Anyhow, they had unplugged the power from the lighter itself. Now I'm going to rip apart the block, and fix the piston rings they fried....err, rewire everything that those moronic audio installers did.

But thanks for all the replies. Can always count on CL for some feedback.
