My small problem just turned into a HUGE one. I installed a 20lb actuator in my door to get it open after the shave job. Everything was working perfactly the past few months untill the other day. At first, the actuator was working every now and then . . . I'd just push the button untill it'd work . . .
That's when I traced the problem to a bad switch. (inlined to kill the power to the actuator) I removed the switch and re-connected everything and whallla . . . problem solved . . . Now it's doing it again! Only this time . . . NOTHING!!! I can't seem to figure this one out. I've got the actuator in the door and grounded. The battery is my direct power sorce. (no fuse) Power goes from the battery through 4g wires all the way to the back of the HB were I hid my entry button in the gas door and then back to the actuator creating a loop. Well . . . if I've got power in . . and then power out of the switch, shouldn't it pop?! I've even removed the button and hot wired it to pop . . . it still dosn't want to click . . . what gives??? Since the internals in an actuator are pretty much just coiled wire that magnatizes with electricity, I can't figure out were this could be going wrong . . . What do you guys/girls think??? Sam - |

Ya lost me . . . .
The actuator IS my door popper. It's streight outa the AutoLoc dhaved door kit. Or . . are you talking about going manual with the choke like kit? Thanks Sam - |

You are running 4 guage wire??? A little over kill ya think? The actuators you are using may be cheap quality. What brand are they? I know this sounds lame but remove the actuator and hook it up at the battery and trace from there to see if its the actuator or your wiring. Do you have it grounded in the door or somewhere in the car? Try checking the grounding of the door, it may not be a good ground at all.

I fixed it! I don't think I had enough to drink the 1st time I tried to fix it.
The more "pops" I have, the more patience I get . . . This time, I re-wired it all and it pops like a charm! ![]() - - - - - - - - - - - - - As for my install: I always go for overkill. The 4g wire was guarenteed not to pinch apart or frey so I went with it, lol As for the actuator, it's an AutoLoc brand piece so the quality is definately there. I mounted it in the door, grounded it to the door, and ran with the rest of the wiring. I don't know what could have went wrong. *shrugging* It works now, I'm not going to sweat it, the HB is on it's way out anyway. If I can't sell it this summer, I'll worry about it later, lol Peace. Toyz - I'm not sure what was going on! I tracked all of my origional wiring to make sure that there were no open spots in wires, loose connectors, and poor ground spots. I chased the entire harness I made with a test light too. As far as I'm concerned, it should have worked fine.
Like I said . . I ended up cutting off the origional connectors, replacing them with new ones, used new switches and a new popper (button). Everything works great now. I even noticed that however I did it this time, my door kicks out further. *shrugging* I'm stoked! Now all I have to do is sit back and get this hatchie sold. ![]() Later. Sam - |
