I need to replace the rotors on my g/f's eclipse and I have done everything I could think of trying to remove these things. The rotors are slightly warped and definitely frozen onto the hub. I've tried beating the parts of the rotor that the pads do not touch and even a pulley puller that wrapped around the rotor, but all to no avail.

My next plan is to take a sledge to the front side of the rotor to anywhere the sledge will hit. I prefer not to break the existing rotor even though I am replacing them. But I will use the sledge if it comes down to it.

What are the secrets in removing stubborn, frozen rotors?

Thanks ladies and gents

my rotors where frozen to the hub as well. basicly i just hit it on ethier side with a sledge until it came off. try this with a small sledge hammer hit it on one side a few times then try the next side thn do it agian... thats what seemed to work best. if u dont need to keep the rotors i wouldnt worrie about them to much

That's what I'll probably end up doing. I didn't do that in the first place cause I didn't have replacements handy. Thanks for the quick reply

yeah just pound that bitch as hard as you can, sledge or not. Thats the only way its coming off.. You can try some pyroil to possibly loosen up some chunks of rust behind there but. Slap the goggles on and have fun bro.

If its really that bad have you tryed removing the screws yet? If those screws arent coming out have fun drilling thru them to get em out. I had to for a couple here and there on my car. 4 rusted rotors = a pain in the ass.

yeah man take like a 10lb sledgehammer and some penetrating oil and bang away, esp if your replacing the rotor, its not gonna matter if they are gonna get broken, JUST MAKE SURE YOU DONT BREAK ANYTHING ELSE, like wheel studs, caliper brakets, or anything else important.

basically whats gonna happen and always does is u beat the fuck out of them, and after like 5 min of beating em u get pissed and just grab the rotor and boom it pops right the fuck off easy as pie. so fars its been like that everytime ive done rotors. thier such a bitch but much better than drums, doing drums sucks ass, and drums just suck in general.

her car is similar to ours, discs in the front, drums in the back. i plan on doing all in the upcoming weeks.

i remember when she first got the car from the original owner. i dont believe the original owner ever had the drivers side front wheel removed, cause even with the lug nuts off, that wheel would not come off. my dad and i spent a good hour pounding the sidewall of the tire to get it loose and even drove on the tire with no nuts in the driveway and slam on the brakes to get it loose. the damn thing would not budge. it was insane. i've never seen anything like it
