Hey guys,

I have a 1991 crx si and it recently started smoking..I got the compression test done to see if one of the rings were bad but the compression check came out fine. I was thinking maybe it was the valve guides that needed to be replaced...but let me know what you guys think. Just want to make sure what the problem might be before doing the work....
thanks...

as general rules

white = water/antifreeze cylinder (often blown head gasket)
blue = burning oil in the cylinders
black = too much fuel (running rich)

Yep if it's white it's your head gasket...I had to replace it three times on my old CRX.

the smoke is white...but it only smokes when I first start off...seems like the smoking is more noticable when it is hotter outside...would the car still run good with the blown headgasket because the car still runs strong..and the smoke is coming out of the tail pipe...let me know guys..
thanks

if the head gasket was gone then you would have a huge cloud behind you, trust me you would know... although it could be on its way out...does it just do it for a few mins, or is it all the time, if just when starting i wouldnt worry about it. has your coolant level gone down at all?

yep, sounds like the early signs of a blown head gasket. it will eventually idle rough/lower and probably die on you.

it's your head gasket change it before your on the side of the road.. change your timing belt while your at it

if your compression is the same (odd) then at least you didnt' blow any rings and leaking coolant into the combustion chamber
