I just bought some Rota's because I wanted to go to 15" higher profiles instead of the sloooow 17's lo-pros.
Now I'm caught between 2 tires. I had Nitto 555's and I LOVED them, but I never use the same thing twice- I like to test out different brands and stuff. But why did I spend $420 on tires just to drive them to work and back AND race them, when I SHOULD be getting a decent, not so expensive tire just to drive around on and an extra pair of wheels equipped with a good drag slick for the tracks that I can switch to. Anyways, I'm looking into either a set of Kumho 712's shipped for $280, and I also found a set of the "now discontinued" Falken Azenis Sports for $325 shipped. I know the Falkens are a better tire especially while they're only $40 more because they are on a closeout, but if they last half the time then to me the Kumho's are a better tire! Again, these aren't for racing, with the exception of the occaisonal redlight run. So what opinions/experiences have we got? And, anybody got another set worth looking into for around the $300 shipped range? |

The Falkens will be great through the summer months when its warm, but its def not a rain, or snow tire.
Kuhmo are more of an all season tire, I say go for the 712's for that very reason. The Azenis at $325 does sound tempting though ![]() |

I'm in Florida, it never changes! When it rains though, IT RAINS!!! But I overcame it with my nittos so that's not what I'm worried about. I just don't want to buy the Falkens and have them last 1 season, I've heard they wear very fast.

i've had my azena's for a while now.. showing good even wear so far.. i dont drive my car daily but when it's driven it's driven hard.
And the tire is fine in the rain. I hate when people say the tire sucks in the rain etc etc. If your drag racing in the rain you deserve to get no traction plus i suggest you hit a pole cause your a moron. Normal driving the tire is fine in rain. The only issue i've ever had is like those truck ruts in the road. Azena's plane a little easier but nothing a good driver can't get over. |

Yeah I remember you had some, I didn't expect to see that you STILL had them! And I'm looking for a 240sx convertible. I've got the money set aside, so as soon as I find one it will become my daily driver. So that's why I'm also leaning towards the Azenis. But Eric, people say that the Azenis is an autoX tire. With the large treadblocks though, I can't see it being all that bad for an occasional launch though. How have yours been in a quick drag race here and there?

AVS ES100s are GREAT in the rain. I've spun them once so far, and it was raining the day I had them put on. Never driven on them in the snow though.

i have had the kumho supra 712s for about a month now and it has rained off and on. they are awesome in the rain as well as dry. i cant be any happier, i looked at tests on tirerack.com and they came out ahead against most uhp summer tires. they suck on snow. but in my completely stock other than coilovers 99 hatch CX i was pulling 2.8-3.0 60ft times at the track last weekend on a nice day. i say get the kumhos for a everyday tire and some advans for a track tire, they are awsome too but they wear fast.

Okay, thanks for all your opinions. I re-though my strategy here and figured instead of buying a spare set of rims and tires for track nights and Saturday nights (Orlando and Tampa race nights) I figured I need to put the 4-500 it would have costed me for a new clutch and flywheel now. So I stepped up the tire to the Kumho MX's. Just a note, I LOVED the Nitto 555's that I had, excellent tire that I would really recommend for something to drag race on as well as a reliable, non-drag radial street tire. But I NEVER use the same thing twice. There's just too much out there to try out...!

thought i would put in a final imput. the azenis are awesome tires def would put them down for a recomondation. and only reason why people say they are poor in the rain is because they have large treadblocks and shallow tread channels. hell they arnt as good as a tire ment for mostly wet conditions, but i read an review in a recent SCC on tires. the azenis took the top lap time out of the group they tested in dry conditions. and did fair in wet conditions. im not sure how the azenis would do in drag racing conditions.
