This just started happening this past Monday or so. I'm driving like normal, starting off from a red light. I shift from 1st to 2nd with no problem, but a couple seconds after I'm in gear, it just pops out of gear into neutral. It's happened at least 2 to 3 times a day since Monday. It only happens a few seconds after going into 2nd gear. Sometimes I get into 2nd gear and if it doesn't pop out, it's all good.

There is no grinding and I'm not forcing it into 2nd gear. It goes in like normal and just pops out on a whim. It only happens with 2nd gear. I haven't had any other gear just pop out on me like this.

I'm running a stock clutch and flywheel and I've had many nitrous runs at the track. Is it the clutch that is starting to fail, or something else along the lines of the 2nd gear?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks

It's the tranny. If it was your clutch, it would slip upon engagement, and do it in other gears.

Ugh, didn't want to hear that.

Is this the warning sign for something horrible to come? Such as no more 2nd gear, or worse? Any ideas on a fix besides replacing the tranny? I'll find a replacement if need be, but I want to explore all options.

Thanks for the quick reply Brett

If you want to tear apart your tranny, go ahead...but it'd be easier just to replace it.

Happened again on the way to Olive Garden tonight. This time I was in 2nd gear longer than usual because of the parking lot.

I have a 1998 EX Coupe with 115k on it. What did you do when it happened to you Brandon?

Looks like a new fidanza fly, act clutch, and tranny are soon to be installed.

Thanks everyone

Well before I go out and find a new tranny, what kind of future problems will result? Will I eventually lose 2nd gear altogether? Or will the whole tranny grenade?

I'm about to drop $500 on books for this upcoming semester, so if the tranny is in decent shape, minus 2nd gear, then I'll gimp my way for awhile.

Thanks

were are you located?
I have my old tranny just laying around.
$50 and it's yours, you can pick it up or i can ship it for like $60 if you wnat, It's in great shape not problems, Just take your VSS and other shit off of your and stick it on this one and you'll be fine. It came out of my 96 civic, with 65k on it. Hit me up if you want it, I'll even drop the price so you can get it for 100$ shipped if you strapped for cash.
