my 92 honda civic is idiling up and down. Someone told me it was the water bypass valve. And someone else told me it is the thermostat. both people said its because the water isn't getting through the block good enough is this true? and how can I fix my problem because it's annoying in traffic while I'm at a red light.

it could be a host of issues,
1) goofy throttle cable 2) leaking vacume line 3) fuel delivery 4) rarely coolant best bet for these things if it doesnt just jump out at you is get it checked out. Find out whats wrong then fix it on your own |

im 99% sure that its the fast idle valve underneath the throttle body..
Take the throttle body off....turn it to the side that has the TPS and youll see a brass looking plate, take off that plate it has 2 8mm screws in it. There will be a white plastic nut that has come loose. tighten that nut and re-assemble...it will most likely fix the prob. Let me know if that helps. |

Also, cld be your IAC. Mine had rough idle and took out and cleaned it and smoothed right out.
Does it only when sitting still? Does it act werid when accelerating, deaccelerating, etc? A lil more info help weed out some things. Are any of guages acting werid? Check engine light on?
