Hey everyone, time for some engine help! Ok, my check engine light was on, so I took it to this honda place in my city, they do free checks and stuff, plus i was having this "idle" jump when the car was warmed up... So I decited to have it looked at. The guy just called me up and told me what was wrong. First thing, the idle jump is b/c my "IACV" is out, and I need that replaced... it will be about 180$ for the part, plus like 80-100$ for the laber. Then I have a bad O2 sensor out. the primary one he said... thats also like 200$ from honda... So guys, what should I do? its a 98 Honda Civic 4dr DX.

First off i think it's your "IACV" thats bad (idle air control valve). And it's very easy to replace yourself.
Second the O2 sensor is also easy to replace.

If you need one. i have an extra honda o2 sensor that i can send you for $15 shipped. As for you IACV i have a few but i don't think they will work on your y7 motor.

do this work yourself man, its not worth it to pay for the labor. its very simple to do it yourself. esp the o2 sensor.

one thing you can try and do is take it off. Spray carb cleaner on the screen and clean it out, Then reset your ECU and start th car up and see if that helps. I know when mine was shooting codes on my LS all i had to do was clean it and then it worked fine.

To reset the ECU, do you just undo the battory.... wait a few min, then rehook it up?

I just talked to the shop again, and they again said it was "EACV valve" so im not sure what that means, i think it might bve something inside the IACV.

Do not do this. IACV is made of a wax element that opens when your car warms. Your going to need a new one. Spraying carb cleaner does not work. It may work for some because thiers is clogged but this doesnt sound like a clogging issue. Just replace it.
