been having some problems with my wifes 2001 ford explorer sport. on cold mornings, the check gauge light comes on and the oil pressure gauge shows no pressure. the engine does not run like it isn't getting oil, and the light goes off and guage works once warmed up. however, it does not want to hold at idle. the rpms start dropping real low and the vehicle wants to stall. she says that it only does it on cold mornings. anyone have any ideas? i have tried flushing the oil system, and i have replaced the MAF sensor.

rent an OBD-II scanner and pull the codes when the check engine light is on. it could be a bad sensor, but i'm not sure if that would affect the idle. you never know how they do their software.

i worked at a ford dealer for a while and oil pressure is normal to see upon startup, at least on the ones that have the message center if you are having idle problems you may have some underlying problem, could be a sensor, use the scanner and see what it tells you, my guess would have been maf but you replaced that already. BTW having worked for ford for a couple of years i would never buy one of there products. seems like explorers go through trannies just as fast as they go through brake pads
