So every sence I put the new motor in there has been an oil leak, And it gets pretty bad when i get on it. Anyway last weekend i desided to fix it. So i pulled the oil pan timing belt ect so i could look at the oil pump. I notice that the crank seal on the oil pump is folded over and fucked, So i replace the seal on the pump and put everything back together. So after setting the timing and putting everything back together. I took it for a drive and it's still leaking oil. Now let me explain, The block it 100% dry and there is no oil on anything higher then the oil pan gasket. But the flow of the leak is major the whole under part of the car is covered in oil. So the only thing i can think of is that it's the rear main seal. And this really sucks because i don't think i can pull my tranny with out pulling the whole motor because of fitment and the mount. So now i'll be driving it for the next week or two but i need to pull all that shit out and replace the seal.

were do you get the stuff from? The hard problem is, It won't leak if i'm just at idle, It needs a load on it and then once it starts to leak it's everywere so i can't tell were it's coming from. But i figure if i replaced the oil pump seal and the oip an gasket there is only once other place were it could be coming from, The main seal on the flywheel side. But yeah let me know were you got the stuff from (sounds like were on CSI)

try cleaning the engine and drive a block and check and see where the most oil is and break it down from there is on the tranny side or the pully side ? oh do you have any type of turbo? |

yeah i've already tired that and i can't find it. Oil is all over both sides but it looks like it's starting on the tranny side. Yes i'm running an 18g turbo, no it is no leaking oil and the return and feed are 100% clear and flowing. I'm thinking it's the rear main. But we will see what happends when i rip the tranny off this weekend.

not sure where you can get it but i'd try most part stores lol, clean your motor and drive it, then go out and check it after a day, the area in which it glows most is you're leak.

yeah i looked that stuff up online, i'm goign to get a bottle and see what happends, i knew it's the main seal because i can't be anything else, unless i'm biulding so much presure in the block and it's blowning out the oil pan gasket. But i've replaced the oil pand gasket and the oil pump crank seal 3 days ago so by the process or trial and error the only seal left is the main. O well, Lets see if i'm going to be able to pull the tranny while leaving the engine in. I'm going to have to post pic's of this project because i so don't want to do it so you knew it's going to be a pain in my ass.

Definitely get the dye before you start in on the RMS. Make absolutely sure where it's coming from.

yeah like i said i'm going to do the dye, but i'm also thinking that might be a waste of time and money, First i would need the dye and then need to buy a black light thats powerful enough to light up the dye. Like i said there are only 3 seals / gaskets on the block. Crank seal on the oil pump , oil pan, and the RMS.
And believe me i don't want to do the RMS, Shit i didn't want to do the one on the oil pump, Fucking taking the timing belt and all that shit off. It was a pain in the ass, and the tranny side is even harder and more of a pain. O well we'll see what happends. Maybe the oil was just left over shit oon the under side of the car. I'm hoping, but it's a week later and i'm still seeing spots / maybe puddles i'll have to rape it on the way home and see whats going on. |

Well I just got home from the office and the car was smoking and i looked under it (wiped the pan clean before i left the office) and the oil is dripping from the vent in the the flywheel cover, So it's 100% the rear main. God damn it. The crank must have been dry when i installed the seals on either end, Because like i said the seal on the oil pump was also fucked so i'm thinking that the friction from the first srtat up mmust have grabbed the seals and pulled then to the point they got destorted and folded over. The seal on the oil pump was folded over on the bottom and the back was ripped to the point were the retaining spring was 75% ripped out. So i'm guessing it's the same thing on the other side. Well i guess at least i'll be able to practice my tranny removal skills. now, From doing the oil pump seal i can now from start to finish do a timing belt in less then 45min. From poping the hood to shutting it and starting up. So thats damn good considering dealers charge you 4-6 hours to do it.
