How can you tell a difference, it doesn?t do it when being revved, only when its in gear and increasing in RPMs

Does it sound like a high pitched tapping coming from the head, or a lower pitched knocking coming from the block?

Agreed...could very well be that.

Rod knock progressively gets worse. In the very best case scenario, you catch it early enough that you just have to replace the rings and bearings. If it goes unfixed, it could get to the point of needing a new motor.

How's your oil level?

If it's piston slap from cold forged pistons, no. If it's the beginning of rod knock, then yes.
