Hey guys. Just put in my new clutch and flywheel. Got it all back together and everything seems to run fine. But the stick feels a bit wierd. When I shift I can feel something like gears moving and stuff. It isn't really that bad, I mean, I'm not grinding, but it's not smooth. Filled the tranny fluid with 10W-30 Quaker State Motor Oil. Do you think I could have put too much fluid in there?

I am not sure about that type of Oil, but I know from my past clutch install and 3 tranny installs each time i put it back together the gears are kinda hard to move from plaec to place for a week or so, then they seem to go back to normle, drive it for a week or so, and see if you notice it getting smoother and easyer.... but if u hear funny noises, then thats bad.

for fluid you should be using 5w-30 contentional, 100% no synthetic. also it is possible to over fill it, put fluid in until it starts to pour out when it stops pouring out cap it. Also make sure the car is level and not jacked up in the front while filling.

Back off you clutch adjustment under the dash at the pedal. There is a chance that the clutch is overengaging.

Ok cool. I've only driven it for a day or so (out on vacation), so I'll give it a while. But yeah, no noises so far

Well, I was told for three different sources that you should use either 10W-30 or 10W-40. But it is conventional oil, yes. And do you mean I should open the check bolt and let it all run out then put it back on?

Well your sources are wrong, Right from my REAL honda shop manual, IF YOU CAN:T USE HMTF then use 5w-30.. So if thats what honda says then thats what you should do. As for filling, the check hole is were you put the fluid in, So just keep filling it until it starts pouring out, Then pull your funnel line out and let the little extra drain over the lip and then put the fill/check plug back in. There are two bolts on the tranny, the lower one with a square notch fitting is your drain, the upper one 17 or 19mm can't remember right now is your fill/check hole.

Seconded on the clutch adjustment- it's probably not disengaging all the way.

And yup- use 5w30 in your transmission if you can't get Honda MTF or GM Synchromesh. 10e30 works ok too.

I used 10w40 in my car for years...I beat the piss out of it, never a hint of a grind. In fact, most people I know ran 10w40....never any problems. I guess we're wrong though right? Because it's not what Honda says.
