It's about time to replace my brakes... who better to ask than you guys?

98 civic ex coupe is the vehicle...

I need new front rotors and pads. I never take the car on a track, but I'm always driving like I'm on one.

i do have wheels off a 99 civic si, but the look of the rotors\calipers does not concern me. The car shakes a bit while applying brakes over 30-40mph, and feels like an earth quake over 60-70mph. Heavy application of brakes, no shakes, the car just stops (or brakes lose--no antilock). This appears to be caused by warpage of the drivers side rotor. I'm looking for some nice brakes that can stop like i was getting paid for it, and wont wear out overnight.

I'm assuming all i need is pads and rotors, if thats incorrent let me know. I plan to install them myself.. i have a few local friends who can add help installing where needed. thanks in advance!

cliffnotes: recomend me some good brakes for a 98 civic ex coupe please, thanks!!

stock brakes here and on all the cars we build...they work perfectly to slow the car down from 140+mph trap speeds. And often times the aftermarket rotor jus break...oh and im still on drums in the rear

You may want to go with Project Mu, for the brake pads, not only are they high end quality, and performance in stopping will improve some, they also will help illiminate the horrible dark brake dust that stock pads are known to do. Yes they cost more but braking isn't an area that you want to skimp on or any other safety applications.

Macking Industries is a distributor and they can help you find a dealer for you.

If you really want to go aftermarket, I've heard good things about Hawk HPS pads. Not too dusty, and real quiet. Or, if you want more grip, the Hawk HPS Plus. But, like most everything Honda makes, stock is more than capable for a dd's needs.

the stock gsr came with hawk pads...thats whats on my car...Stock gsr rotors(same size as the ex anyway) and stock pads. and like i said...i think 140mph trying to stop to make a turn off is one hell of a test on brakes....

Either OEM rotors or Brembo OE blanks. I had some PBR Ultimate pads that grabbed super hard, but dusted a lot. Hawk makes good pads as well.

Buy my FastBrakes kit? 11 inches front and rear, with 4 pot Wilwoods up front.

You'll just have to resurface the rotors a bit (not warped) and buy new pads up front. Wilwood pads suck. Hawk HPS or HP+ = good. Same with Project Mu.

Default Re: Need Help Picking Out Brakes!

just wondering as it is on topic and may help someone else who reads this, Is there anything that we should know about mixing a brand of rotor with a brand of pad???

Also, not sure what is a GSX?

Hope you guys don't mind resurrecting "old threads".. A thread isn't old to anyone but a couple... These things come up in search engines and everything and anytime we add to the information it could help someone else... Hope you don't mind my style!
