Howdy,
I was a member ages ago and this forum helped me through an H22A swap back then. (Full rebuild, lots of upgrades and 6 months after I finished the swap I moved to Japan for 2 years... so it’s now gone) Good news is that I now have a 94 Si (D16Z6 I believe, correct me if I am wrong) and I am in the position to start working on it. After the fun I had last time, I think I will stick with the stock D16 for the build. However, this is my daily driver and I can't have it down for weeks (even a week will be rough) while the engine is built. The good news is that I have located a D16Y8 for a reasonable price. So here is my plan, can anyone see any problems with it? I hope to purchase the D16Y8 and tear it apart. I will use the Y8's block and crank and I will purchase a remanufactured Z6 head (they aren't too bad). I will then proceed to sleeve the block and throw in new pistons & rods. (I hope to build for turbo) I will then take the Y8 block and my Z6 head and throw them together back in my hatch. From what I have read so far, this should work but I wanted to run it by the crew here. My main question is will the Y8 block work with the Z6 head. I know I will be spending a bit more this way but it will limit my downtime to hopefully just a long weekend. I don't want to use the Y8 head because I believe it is OBDII (from a 95 del sol) and my car is OBDI (again, correct me if I am wrong). I want to keep changes to the car to a minimum. Thanks in advance And I am sorry if I stuck this in the wrong place. This is probably a hybrid question but the underlying question is fairly general tech: how different are the Y8 and Z6 blocks? (Just the block - not the head, not the pistons, not the rods because as I understand it, those are slightly different.) Last edited by Siamese-Goldfish : 05-08-2008 at 04:01 PM. |
