No, nationwide you can replace your catalytic converter if it's "defective" or if you've passed 50k miles and a muffler shop (or someone else licensed to sell catalytic converters) deems it "necessary." If you're over 50k miles, just go to a good shop and tell them you want a high flow cat. Get a Carsound or a Catco- those are some of the best- and get it sized to your header collector and your exhaust system. I got my 2.5 inch Carsound for only $140 installed, and that's a "non hookup" price.

Thanks Calesta that is the best idea so far, i think the cat is the original one with the old engine that had 190,000 miles on it. So I think its time for a new one.

Yup! The new enigine deserves a new intake, new exhaust and Cat. Now i just need to get a new header and it would look clean.

yeah, thats pretty much what i said anyway, you cant mess with a cat unless it is deemed defective. but he was asking above my post if you could gut a cat, and have it pass smog, and i said no you couldnt. then i went on to say how you cant replace a perfectly good cat, etc, etc, so im not sure why you think im wrong.
