I just got a DAC short ram for my '02 hatch and a few days ago I almost pooped my pants. It was early in the morning and the car was not compteletely warmed up so I took ogg to work. As I got on the freeway and lightly tapped the gas I heard this LOUD pop and I felt it on the floor board. I thought I ran over some thing so I pulled over and searched the engine bay...nothing.
I went to this other forum and posted a ? about this they mentioned thatvit is failry common for intakes to pop?!!? how true is this? I spent good money on this part and I'm seriously thinking about getting back to stock intake since I am worried this will hurt my engine. Can anyone explain the reason why this happens? I have got an idea but i dot know if it is right? and whose intakes pop in here? |

never in my civic has that happened but my ol 91 crx had that problem bigtime. It sounds like more of a choke right?!? Mostly when I started my car it happened and once on the road. I have a feeling its from too much air flowing thru and nowhere to go once entering the intake system. Depends on the intake you have really because that specific one you have controls the amount of air that goes thru. Id exchange it if it happens again..

well I know I did not hit aqnything so..
it was more of a choke like Doughboy is talking about. I have heard that it is pretty common on the new hatches because at some point during the combustion both valves are open(something honda did to better emissions)so the POP I hear is supposed to be part of the combustion??!!?? At least that is what has been mentioned on a 02 hatch forum ![]() So is this possible that this is something that has to do with Honda trying to better emissions? |

Did the car hesitate for any length of time? Have you reset the ECU after the intake was installed? Are the vaccuum lines all connected and clamped on tight? Have you checked to make sure that nothing is inside the intake pipe? Did the pop happen when shifting or when cruising mid gear? High Rpm's or low RPM's?
Some of this may sound dumb but I promise I am not trying to insult you I just always double check the simple stuff first. If these all check out to be normal then try changing the intake with a friends and see if the same occurs on his car or with his intake. You need to make sure to get a Short-Ram so that you are comparing the same things. Doesn't need to be same brand though. PM me if you need any further suggestions.

Thanks ^
It really only happens when I first start the car in the am and usually around second gear (or anytime I shift around 4k rpm). All hoses are clamped on tight, and so far it seems like the sound of the popping is slowly going away. I did not reset my ecu. I let the car idle for about 5 minutes and restarted it , the check engine light never came on? unlike my old 96 sedan which I ahd to reset the ecu when I installed the intake. Im thinking about going bcak to stock and putting the intake in my wife's car...I guess then I'll be able to see if the problem lies on the intake of the car...we'll see |
