our racing season is ending soon and now that i have the whole winter to do some work i want to do a head swap. i have a d16z6 with three options. 1. b16 head,2. b18 head, 3. keep the d16 head. of course i am going to p&p the head , lighter bigger valves, cams etc. i am looking for the easiest/cheapest route does anyone have any ideas or opinions they can give me?

Well . . I'll simplify your options for ya.

You've got 1 option! Keep the d series head.

You can't mate a B series head onto a D series block . . sorry to bring on the bad news, lol

Keep looking for some d mods or swap to a b.

Good luck!

yep sam's right. if you're really wanting to be fast then you should swap your engine. but then of course, you could rebuild and turbo your D series and be faster for the money. it really depends on how fast you wanna be in the end and how much you wanna spend.

since i just dropped 2g on getting the bottom end rebuilt an engine swap is out of the picture. i guess i will have to figure out a way to build a lethal d16. now, should i stay with the z6 or go with a y8?
right now the plan is to run a 100-125 shot direct ported, with possibly a turbo w/ nitros way down the road
thanx for the bad news

DOHC d series? i didn't think that existed. but either way, if the head is DOHC it won't bolt up (i think). you have to stay SOHC. i don't know much about the z6 but i know a decent amount about the y8. there's a good amount of potential in them, but for the best results you'd want to either spray or go forced induction. and of course you could do some head work if you wanted to be that much faster. what'd you get done to the bottom end?

i didn't know there was a DOHC d16 either but in the tech faq's here there is a section on d series motors and the d16a8/9 is a DOHC non vtec that came in late 80's-early 90's crxs and teggys

i detonated and bent a rod and the rocker shaft. so i had srp pistons, rods, and rings. the block was decked and clearenced for the 10:1 compression. then the head was trued to the block. the block was damaged when the rod kept hitting the block but i think that was fixed when the block was clearenced. then the clutch was replaced with a centerforce DF. the parts were only about $1000 but the mill work and labor killed me. i think i should have replaced the crank but i was low on money.
