You are pushing 600 whp on a stock LSD??? I have a 91 DA that is boosted with a B18C1 that is fully built that is hitting over 550 whp. I had the stock JDM LSD out of a B16 (5 million series) and it gernaded like a champ!! Now I run a Quaife. Not to say yours dont hold up but what tires do you run on? I run a set of quite large wrinkle walls so that might have been the diffrence.

3. Where is calesta?, he explains this much better than i...
AJ explained it well enough.

The OEM Honda LSD will hold up to quite a bit of power, but launching hard with tons of power and tons of traction will break anything.

Quaifes just have lifetime warranties so they're really nice, but in operation they're about the same as the OEM unit. Some people have actually complained about the Quaife ATB LSD "hunting" from side to side under heavy acceleration with tons of power, and it's pretty scary. I've experienced it, and it's not fun.

You read it wrong...

I said "My OEM HONDA LSD handles about 600WHP."

Not "has"

Although, with any LSD and a set of wrinkewalled slicks, you will most likely gernade it too.

Ask Quaife if they will cover your LSD for drag racing, my guess is you'll be SOL if and when it comes time to warranty it.

LSD's are "Good" for drag racing, but they were designed for road racing. If you are pushing that much power, might I suggest a 1pc spool instead of a LSD....

Not to get off subject, but my new vehicle runs low 10's and only puts out about 140WHP. No real need for a LSD there......it's a 1 tire fryer

B16A - You need to learn more about real LSD's.

WHY?

Because you are giving out wrong information about them.

LSD Trannys, good if you DONT plan on building your motor
LSD's are good for ANYONE, built or not.

Quote:
Because the stock LSD WILL NOT HOLD if you plan on making more power and put it to the ground...so why buy a LSD tranny when the LSD is going to break and you have to buy a new one?
[/b]
How much power do you want to put down? My OEM HONDA LSD handles about 600WHP.

2. I believe there are two types of LSDs, now the ones that come in the Type R, CTR, and LSDs you can get from japan in the b16a, h22, and so forth are setup for road racing, i think.[/b]
There are indeed 2 basic types of LSD's.

Viscous - (gears)
Clutch type - (plates)

Then there are 2 more within those 2 basic types.

Automatic torque biased
Non-automatic torque biased

It all depends on WHICH LSD has been installed and that will tell you what it was designed for. MOST Honda/Acura OEM LSD's are Viscous ATB. There however, are a few that are stronger than others due to parts used.

Quote:
they are not 50-50 each wheel spinning type deal, one wheel will still grip more than the other if one starts to lose tracing, the 50-50 traction from most type of LSD's will continusouly sprin both wheels even if decides to lose traction...
[/b]
MOST LSD's are considered 50/50 because when in a straight line, they split the power evenly. Yes, if one tire starts to loose traction, the power is sent to the one that has the grip, thus increasing your available traction. If BOTH tires loose traction, then the LSD will go BACK to the 50/50 split until traction is regained. That way, you don't pull to one side or the other when you finally regain traction.

Make sense?

Frying only one tire is nice with your setup.

Im sorry I interpreted it wrong. I just felt that "handles" was in a present tense. Anywho I have been working with Quaife reps on my project DA. The reason I didnt want to go with a fully locked up spool was that this car is mostly ran on a track but is tested and broken in on the streets. Having a spool would give "crapy" handleing on streets not to mention not so good to the tires either. The thoughts on this car was to make it streetable, relyable and quite fast. (Not to mention WAY too much power for the street)
