Great! I found a site that shed some light on the tranny question we've been wondering.
Here it is ---> http://www3.honda-perf.org/community/membe...idb16/b16a.html You'll have to scroll down a bit to see the differances in trannys from model to model and year to year . . . What a pain in the ass . . . |

so i sorta skimmed the middle of the post... but here are my thoughts:
first off, the 5th gen is my personal fav. 4th look ugly and the engine bay one a crx is not as accommodating as those in the 5th gen. (although, i love crx's) on to the motor: after doing the h22, i would suggest the b16. especially if you want reliable AND you want to do it yourself. i know you (bio) are much more experienced than i am so i think you wouldn't have much trouble with the H22 swap at all. its really not that bad (of course i am saying this before it is totally tweaked and tuned, so who knows). However, the b16 is a good solid platform that has been done quite a bit. And did you say you already had one on hand? if so, thats all the more reason. so what i like about the b16: -it fits well -little mods are needed to make it fit, if any -has been tried and tested, a lot -still good power -weight dist what i don't like: -not quite as powerful as the h22 h22 plusses: -more power -has been done (granted not as much) -can you say 2.2 liters? down sides: -lets face it, its a hack job. -weight dist, its like having a big kid or small adult sittin on your hood all the time -be prepared to spend an arm and a leg on h22 parts (i mean honda stuff is already expensive, prelude stuff is even more so) there Bio, hope that helps at least some.

"hack job " is perfect to describe an h22,yes it can be done and they make mounts and whatnot for it..but that engine was just NOT made to fit in that car!Yeah it makes good power but the car does not handle that great! |

H22 accord sounds more fun than a B16 rex or hatch.
(chanting.) H22! H22! H22! ... but... i'll have you know that only badasses drive B16's. join the club bro! you can be a badass too! -Dane

The H22A engine leans in the wrong direction
Civic engines have blocks that lean forward while the H22A block leans backwards, towards the firewall. Even though mounts are avail.for this engine, it's still not suitable for this chassis. Chronic understeer The heavy load up front will cause tons of understeer. Furthermore, the added power up front will cause the front end to lose traction too easily. What you have is a car that goes fast, only in a straight line. |

Well . . Vash, Corey, I think that I have my decision made up now.
H22 all the way, lol No, I'm just kidding. I'll just go through the accord, make sure that it's running 110% and then unload it as quicly as I can to get enough $ to complete both of my near future projects. I should be able to get around 6grand for the accord. That should be enough to get a rex, b16, and start on my Honda Chop project. With any luck, I'll have both done before spring comes along! ![]() Dane - I'll take your advise too bro . . why not join the club? No one from my area has, haha I might as well be the 1st! ![]() Thanks all of you for the help. I appreciate it alot. Well, now that all of my questions are answered for now, we can start bitchin' up the rest of this thread as usual, haha so far so good . . . EVERY comment posted was of help to at least one of us! Good job guys! ![]() Till next time . . Sam - |
