I just talked to a buddy of mine about a truck project that we may just be interested in persuing . . I'd just like some feed back first.
My X's new fiance has a great looking 90something Nissan Hardbody King Cab, similar to mine just 2wd instead. He was asking me what there was to do to it when all of a sudden out of no where, SKYLINE came to mind! ![]() Do you think it would be a royal pain in the balls to do a skyline or even a silvia motor swap into it? Afterall, it is going from one nissan and into another, I'm just not sure what a challange it might be. What do you think? Should I push him into it or give up whyle we're ahead? Thanks. Sam - |

Hmmm now that would be interesting.I would say maybe check out some of the Nissan web forums and maybe those guys can help ya.I do't know if they would know much about trucks but they might know something or maybe have even heard of someone doing this swap.
Nowadays it seems like anything is possible! |

I'm already a 5 year member of a site called 4x4parts . com
They are a Nissan only truck site that has everything known to man about this stuff . . . and I couldn't even find into there! doh! I'll keep trying. Thanks. |

I work for the nissan dealership here in Chesapeake, VA, and use to be a owner of a 90 Sil-Eighty (240SX). It is possible to do the SR20DET swap but not to sure about the Skyline swap, possibly with a RB20DET. If you go to www.ultraspeed.com and look for a guy on that forum, he has actually done the sr20det swap into his nissan truck. A skyline motor would be a little harder to do since the RB26Dett doesnt bolt right up to the 240sx platform (since the 90-92 240sx stock motor: KA24DE, are the same in the 90 Hardbody truck as well. But since you are working with a truck i think even with the sr20det platform in a hardbody nissan truck i think custom mounts are still required.

B - Thankd you very much for the info. I'll def. check out that site. Maybe it's even the same one I saw a few years back. I remember someone out there that did indeed do a crazy car engine swap into their hb. I just wasn't sure what it was . . .
As far as a skyline power plant is conserned, that is a bit far fetched . . it's obviously alot more money first off. I just figured that since the HB's came with 4 and 6 cyl. engines in them, we might be able to get away with it, haha We'll see. I'll keep doing my homework and I'll find out what my boy ends up wanting to do. Hey, Thanks again!!! ![]() Sam - |

Sam- I did some reading up since I have a 95 Hardbody now... and the RB25 and RB26 are too long for the HB's engine bay. You'll have to move the firewall back in order to clear the engine. The SR20 swap is your best bet- that or dropping a turbo on the KA24. That's my plan anyway- no need to swap here.

Sam if you can get a turbo set up for the KA motor thats the way to go. A stock KA boosting 7 SPI have more HP and TQ then a stock SR20. I just helped a friend fut an SR20DET into his 98 240sx (S14.5) and if dynoed at lower numbers then his KA boosted did,

Yeah mike is right, SR20's are more far fetched than everyone believes....They think well sr20s are better than KA motors...wrong. KA motors put out more torque than the sr20s and can produce way more power than the sr20s if built right. Sr20s in japan are made for circuit track racing more than drag racing and are made for more top end power rather than 1/4 mi times.

Aren't the KA powerplants stock? I assume that you were saying that, haha
I had my Nissan for a while and I can agree with the tq sanario . . Not too hard to believe . . but . . how to just get them to rev out alot higher is what I need to do some homework on . . especially if we just boost his. I never really thought of that. Toyota did it for years, haha Good deal! Thanks again!!! Sam - |
