I am currently running a 91 ls block bored .15 over ( I got some srp pistons off of ebay ) the pistons are ceramic coated on top and polymolly coated on the sides and I am using eagle rods, and I have a vtec oil and water pump. Well I think my machinist messed up when he ground down the rings because it now puffs a blueish cloud under heavy acceleration. I knew I should have checked it. Oh well So I figured I would buy another block. I found a b18c1 block its just the block and the oil squirters nothing else. Can I use the bottom end of the b18a1 on the b18c1? I know I will be making a long stroke engine but I am turboing it so I don't mind not reving it passed 8000 rpm. Is there something that just won't work that I am missing? Also I understand I now need a vtec head. I think I have a lead on a good b16 head.

Thanks

I dont think your machinist messed up, piston rings would smoke constantly on and off acceleration. Did you replace any seals or anything when you put this all together? Sounds like valve seals to me. Replace your PCV valve while your at it to lower your blow by in your crankcase.

Yeah I replaced every seal and o-ring I could. The only thing I can think of in the head I used used valves and maybe the were out of spec. All I know is when I take off for my quarter mile run when I hit second I see smoke out the back and its getting old. So what about the swap idea? Well it work or no? Thanks again.

p.s. is the b18c1 crank the same as a b18a1

I don't know about your smoking problem, but no- the B18C1 crank has an 87.2mm stroke, and the B18A/B18B have a crank with an 89mm stroke. You CAN use the B18A/B crank in the B18C1 block without any problems. Just make sure to use matching rods and pistons. You might have to bend the oil squirters out of the way a bit.

Wouldn't he run into problems with the main caps if he wanted to retain the OEM GSR crank girdle?

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile. Thanks for the info about the crank I guess I will hold off buying the block. As for the color smoke its like a whitish blue smoke. Its not antifreeze I know that much, and it only blows out under hard acceleration. Any ideas as to the cause? I replaced the pvc no help there. thanks Scott

Get a compression test and leakdown test done. Bluish smoke is oil. Could be rings, valve seals, etc. A leakdown test will tell you more.

No problems on mine... you're still using the GSR block and caps, so the girdle will fit fine.
